States are Providing Doula Services Within Their Medicaid Programs to Address Inequities

Current research has shown that pregnant people who receive doula services are more likely to have a healthy birth outcomes and a positive birth experience. These improved outcomes have cost-saving implications over time for state Medicaid programs that have increasingly led states to seek federal authorization to provide doula services as an optional benefit under their state Medicaid programs.
